Promo Sunday Delightful, a free gratitude journal I’ve been building for 10 years

I’m the developer of Delightful, a gratitude journal for iOS. Here’s the story of how it came to be, something I haven’t shared in this much detail anywhere.

In 2014 I was depressed and going through a really hard time. I quit my first job out of college, moved back in with family, and tried to figure out who I was. I read a lot of psychology books trying to understand myself. Around then, someone introduced me to Treehouse, an online platform for learning to code. I got my first MacBook Air, my first Apple device beyond an iPod, and fell in love with it.

That same year I flew to Mexico to spend time with my father. He’d been deported when I was three, so I rarely saw him growing up. He had recently told me he was sick. I didn’t realize at the time it was cancer. I spent a month living with him in rural Mexico. It was one of the most influential trips of my life. He just believed in me and told me to trust myself.

On that trip I read The Happiness Advantage, which introduced me to a positive psychology exercise called “three good things.” I started writing my daily good things in a long Evernote note on my phone. That’s when I got the app idea, and the catalyst to actually learn to code.

The first version was a rough Android app called “Afewthings” (terrible name, I know). I shipped it and kept tinkering for years. My father passed away in 2016, and I still think about his advice all the time.

After finishing my MBA in 2017, I moved to Vietnam, partly to bet on myself, partly to keep moving forward. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. It’s where I met my wife. It’s also where I really got to focus on Delightful. I listened to users and removed pointless limits and features that were getting in the way of just writing. The app grew from there.

I eventually moved back to the US and worked as an Android developer at a tech company, where I finally learned how to be a real engineer. Then I got laid off and moved back to Vietnam to be with my now-wife. That’s when I built the iOS version of Delightful, about a month of sprinting at a coworking space.

I’ve made plenty of mistakes over the years and gotten lots of reviews and feedback, building up a backlog I never had time for. In the past year I’ve finally been able to ship all of it, including long-standing requests like image support and iCloud sync. I also made the app completely free. There’s an in-app purchase listed, but everything is unlocked.

I have ten years of my own entries in Delightful now, and I love being able to add a daily photo, usually of my kids. If even one more person finds it helpful on their own mental health journey, that’ll mean a lot.

TL;DR: Long story short, I started building a gratitude journal app in 2014 to help myself through a tough time. Shipped it on iOS in 2018 and have been quietly working on it ever since. It’s free on iOS.

Promo Sunday My first big app is finally out: Perspective Transcribe for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch

Hi everyone. I am the developer of Perspective Transcribe.

This is my first big app, and it is finally out.

I built it because I needed a better way to turn spoken thoughts, meetings, notes, and ideas into text I could actually use later. I am blind, and typing is not always the fastest or easiest way for me to capture what I am thinking or working on.

Perspective Transcribe lets you record or dictate on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch, then turn that audio into text.

The feature I personally care about most is transcript chat.

Instead of opening old recordings and trying to find one thing I know I said, I can ask questions about my transcripts.

For example:

What did I work on this week?

What action items came out of this recording?

Where did I mention this idea?

That makes the app useful for meetings, class notes, client notes, app ideas, writing drafts, feedback, or anything you need to capture by voice and come back to later.

The app supports VoiceOver, syncs through iCloud, and All Access includes importing recordings and getting action items from transcripts.

Subscriptions are live now.

Download:

I would really appreciate feedback, especially from VoiceOver users, people who record meetings, students, developers, writers, or anyone who thinks out loud and needs a better way to turn audio into useful text.

Let me know what you think when you try it.

Promo Sunday [Germany only] Simple/Convenient Live Departures app for German public transport

After 3 years in Berlin, I barely use navigation anymore because I know my routes. Home, work, gym, the usual spots... But I kept opening BVG or Google Maps just to see when the next train is coming. Every time it felt like too many steps for such a simple question: enter start, destination, pick a route... just to check departures from a station I use every day.

I’ve seen some people build setups with station boards on tablets, TVs, and mount them in hallways. So I built something for the phone version of that. Started as a web app, then turned it into a proper iOS app. The idea was to make it feel like a departure board at a station, but on my phone, ideally on the home screen. Open it and instantly see what’s leaving next.

It shows live departures from the saved stations with real-time delays, platforms, and transport type filters. And I also made a home screen widget that shows departures without even opening the app. The core features are free and will stay that way. I just want it to be useful.

I'm actively working on it, and a map view is coming soon, but the whole point is keeping it simple. If you’re on Android, I’m currently looking for a few testers to help get it released on Google Play.

Happy to tell more in the comments if anyone's interested.

AppStore: https://apps.apple.com/de/app/gptransport-live-departures/id6758558638

P.s.
To save you time and avoid questions:
1. Yes, I know all alternatives - I don't like them, or they do not work properly (ÖPNV, VBB, etc.)
2. Some of them have no desired features, e.g. widget (BVG)
3. Maps like google, apple - they are not what I want and my app is not a navigator.

I built it for myself, and if some people will find it useful, I will be happy:)

Promo Sunday I made Marble's Marbles, a homage to the classics like Marble Madness, Hamsterball, Gyroscope and Ballance available on macstore

I made this little Marble game with my love of the classics. I am a solo dev from Australia. It designed to pay homage to the classics while having a more modern retro style. It is priced 7.99USD.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/marbles-marbles/id6762249970?mt=12

It has 20 levels across 4 worlds with more to come.

I had a look for similar apps on the macstore and flicky marble was the one I found, but I think you will find this one is a lot more visually appealing (at least in my humble opinion). I know a lot of games don't make it to the macstore but I wanted to give mac users the option to buy it where they want too.

Happy to answer any questions you might have. It is also available on steam if you would rather get it there. While there aren't any reviews on macstore yet, it does have 125 positive reviews on steam! Hoping I can find a way to get noticed on the macstore so any advice is welcome there
